With barbecue season just around the corner, a maker of gas grills and accessories sold at Lowe’s, True Value Hardware and Sam’s Club is closing its doors.
Fiesta Gas Grills, based in middle Tennessee, is filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy with debt of more than $35 million. The company lists only $15,000 in assets, and company officials predict there will be little left for creditors, reported the Nashville Business Journal.
The biggest company to lose out could be Wolfedale Engineering, a company that makes portable propane gas cylinders for the grills made by Fiesta.
Fiesta is owned by Onward Manufacturing, a Canadian company that owns several popular lines of gas grills. Onward only recently acquired Fiesta, which was sold in 25,000 stores across the U.S., in 2010.

If federal regulators have their way, the mortgage of tomorrow may look a lot like the mortgages of yesteryear, back when an old adage held that, “The only people who can get a loan are people who don’t need one.”
This week, the Federal Reserve and other banking regulators published a much-anticipated proposal for new regulations on banks and mortgages. The most controversial rule, and the most important for homebuyers, would require borrowers to make downpayments of at least 20% to qualify for a loan.
Low downpayments, in many cases as low as $0, “contributed significantly to the high levels of delinquencies and foreclosures since 2007,” according to the proposal.
Nonsense, consumer and homeowner advocates say. Even duri

There are times when people struggle to pay their bills. There just is not enough money coming in to make all the payments. Can debt collectors call family and friends to share the sometimes humiliating news that someone cannot pay? Simply stated the answer is no. This does not mean that debt collection never stoops to this level though.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) is supposed to ensure that debt collectors do not call any third parties, including family and friends, to openly discuss any monetary issues. They can call to ask for information, such as a phone number or street address. Although this act is meant to protect consumers, many debt collection agencies choose to ignore it. They know that contacting family and friends can often make their collection successful. They take advantage of this rule because they realize many consumers are not knowledgeable about it.
Contacting a debt lawyer is in the consumer’s best interest if they are put in this situation. C

Today’s top news headlines shed light on new obstacles homeowners are facing and the ways in which high unemployment rates are contributing to the housing market slump. Plus, consumers are urged to take a day to organize their finances.
Banks Impose Costly Flood Insurance Policies on Mortgage Loan Borrowers The New York Times Many homeowners who have lived in their homes for years without carrying a flood insurance policy are now being forced by their banks to do so – a mandate that significantly increases their monthly mortgage payment. This phenomenon is largely due to recent re-drawing in the nation’s flood maps. Thousands of Americans who argue they are not in a flood zone are forced to pay for a surveyor to analyze their property, and even then, this action may not result in their removal from the flood plain.
